There are numerous regional organizations in the world gathered to harmonise common interests related to the peaceful use of nuclear energy, which includes the management of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel.
Here we will mention the European Atomic Energy Community, Euratom.
European Atomic Energy Community (EURATOM)
The Treaty establishing the European Atomic Energy Community (EURATOM) was created to coordinate research programmes on the peaceful use of nuclear energy in the Member States, to provide knowledge, infrastructure and resources for nuclear energy, and to ensure sufficient quantities and security of supply of atomic energy.
In order to support the objectives of the European Atomic Energy Community (EURATOM), two agencies have been set up:
- EURATOM Supply Agency (ESA),
- European Joint Undertaking for ITER and the Development of Fusion Energy.
